3.0 SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Commercial item. The weighing device, herein referenced to as scale, shall be the same product offered by the contractor in the commercial marketplace for at least one year preceding the solicitation. Minor changes to the commercial product, with respect to ruggedizing and environmental suitability and protection shall be permitted, subject to the approval of the procurement office, to satisfy the requirements of this CID. All sections of this CID apply to each type of scale unless specific specifications have been noted. The scale shall be fully electronic using shear beam load cells. The scale shall perform an analog to digital conversion. The calibration data shall be stored at the scale indicator. This allows for interchangeability of indicators that accept the digital output and be of the same make and model (ref 3.7)
3.2.1 Type I. The scale shall be floor mounted. The platform must be conveyorized for roll on and roll off of fully loaded aircraft pallets. The platform shall be a minimum of 108 in.2 but no more than 120 in.2. Platform height shall be adjustable from 18in. to 22in. These dimensions are provided for information only; alternative dimensions may be used. The scale shall have a machined anti - skid walkways if needed.
3.2.2 Type III. The scale shall be large enough to accommodate cargo without requiring additional base supports. The following dimensions are required to properly weigh cargo in the warehouse; overall dimensions including the weighing surface are 4 feet W x 5 feet L. These dimensions are provided for information only; alternative dimensions may be used. The scale shall have a machined anti - skid base and top. The scale shall be NTEP Class III/IIIL certified to 5,000 divisions by the National Institute of Standards and Technologies (NIST) (ref. 2003
NIST Handbook 44).
3.2.2.1 Ramps. The Type III scales shall be supplied with two (2) ramps that are easily detachable from the scale. The ramps shall be durable enough to withstand rated capacity and overload protection of the scale.
3.3 Scale Performance.
3.3.1 Type I. The current performance range for the Type I scale shall be 0 to 11,000lbs. Alternatives shall be considered as long as the alternative exceeds the current performance range.
3.3.2 Type III. The current performance range for the Type III scale shall be 0 to 5,000lbs. Alternatives shall be considered as long as the alternative exceeds the current performance range.
3.4 Scale Accuracy. The indicated weight shall be repeatable with the indicating weight inaccuracy not exceeding +/- 0.1% of the applied load.
3.5 Overload. The scale shall be capable of withstanding 1.5 times the rated capacity without sustaining structural damage or permanent degradation of performance.
