COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
SCALE SYSTEM, DIGITAL, DELICATESSEN
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.
1. Intended use. This commercial item description covers an electronically operated scale system for weighing, computing prices, and producing UPC labels for food items.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Design and construction. The scale system shall consist of a digital computing scale with elevated dual display and thermal label printer with capacity for printing Universal Product Code (UPC) bar symbols. The elevated dual display shall extend approximately 12 inches above the scale platter. The digital computing scale shall be connected to the label printer. The scale shall consist of: a modular component scale with counter type platter, a solid state controlling mechanism with electronic memory, and a printer with universal bar code printing capability. The scale and printer shall be designed for use in rooms with 10% to 95% relative humidity. The controlling mechanism shall incorporate a back-up battery for memory retention up to 20 hours in the event of an external power failure. The scale and printer shall operate as a system to automatically weigh, compute, print and issue labels, and collect total data for management use. The scale shall provide for a digital readout of unit price, total weight in pounds, and total price in dollars. The scale shall be electronically programmable with a minimum memory capability of 400 commodity descriptions with price lookups and 40 user-programmable grade descriptions. The size of the platter shall be essentially the same as the scale base. The scale shall weigh in increments from zero to 30 pounds. Prices per pound shall range from $0.01 through $99.99. Light emitting diodes shall display a minimum of five digits. The elevated dual display shall be easily visible on both the customer and operator sides of the scale. The printer shall automatically deliver pressure-sensitive printed labels displaying the date, total weight, unit price, total dollars, and Universal Product Code bar code symbols. Minimum label capacity shall be 5,000 labels per roll. Provisions shall be made for tare weight. Maximum dimensions of the scale shall not exceed 20 inches in width, 20 inches in depth, and 19 inches in height. Maximum dimensions of the printer shall not exceed 13 inches in width, 16 inches in depth, and 7 inches in height.
