COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION

SCALE, HANGING, DIAL, 30 POUND

The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description.

1. Intended use. This commercial item description covers a hanging dial scale that is used for weighing produce.

2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.

2.1 Design and construction. The hanging dial scale shall consist of a removable stainless steel weighing pan and a dual face chart enclosed in a chrome finished housing. The scale shall be equipped with an attaching device at the top center of the dial housing for hanging the scale. The scale shall have a 30-pound weight capacity and the weight chart shall be graduated in l-ounce increments up to 10 pounds. The scale shall have a 10- and 20 pound weight indicator located below the dial. The 10- and 20-pound weight indicators shall appear after one and two rotations, respectively by the dial indicator. The weighing mechanism shall be temperature compensated to assure stability in environmental changes and shall have dampeners to reduce dial indicator oscillations for quick reading.

2.2 Dimensions. The dual face dial shall be 13 to 15 inches in diameter and 3 to 4 inches thick. The weighing pan shall be 15 to 19 inches in diameter and 3-1/2 to 5 inches deep. The approximate dimensions of the hanging scale shall be 40 inches high by 23 inches wide at the weighing pan.

3. QUALITY ASSURANCE.

3.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this description, conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same as the product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.

4. PACKAGING.

4.1 Packaging.  The hanging dial scale shall be packaged, packed, and marked in accordance with the domestic or overseas requirements of ASTM D 3951, as applicable.
